Ayurveda Winter Guide

❄️Winter is characterized by cold weather, a sense of heaviness, increased moisture, cloud-covered days sends many animals into hibernation. These are all qualities shared by kapha dosha, which is why winter is considered primarily a KAPHA season. However, if your climate is exceptionally cold and dry, vata will also be a strong component of your winter season, and you will want to actively keep vata placated as well.❄️ . EFFECT OF SEASON ON BODY AND DOSHA The strength of a person becomes less. Winter is Kapha Season with Strong Vata Undertones. Agni (catabolism) remains in a higher state. The body requires more fuel to stay warm and healthy in the winter months, and the cold weather forces the fire principle deep into the core of the body—igniting the digestive capacity .

◆ DIET REGIMEN ◆ Due to increased digestive fire, food predominant in sweet and sour taste and which is heavy for digestion such as wheat flour, black gram, products of sugarcane and of milk, food prepared from freshly harvested corn, muscles, fat and edible oil are advised. The meat of well-nourished animals, meat soup, wine prepared of jaggery can also be included in the diet. . ◆ LIFESTYLE ◆ Body massage with oils alleviating Vata dosha, exercise, fumigation with Aquilaria agallocha and bathing in hot water, exposure to sunlight and wearing warm clothes are advised during this season . ◆ AVOID ◆ Vata aggravating lifestyle like exposure to cold wind, excessive walking, sleep at late night, are to be avoided. Foods having pungent, bitter, astringent predominant tastes are to be avoided. Light and cold foods are advised to be prohibited.
